Oh So much to share!!!
I had the most crazy, entertaining, exhausting and fun this past week in Miami! If you didn’t read last weeks or aren’t sure why in the heck I was in Miami, I encourage you to catch up on tidbits of how I got here, and why I was here, etc. But the long and short of it is I was able to spend a week or so with some of my favorite humans in this world. I was able to head to Miami to cheer on my friend Yasiel Puig in the Caribe Series playing baseball for Venezuela. And they won the entire thing by the way…!!!!
Yasiel is like myself and doesn’t mind a house full and a circus around him at most times so I love I get to stay with him in the mix of things whenever I visit. I’m pretty independent when need be, yet love the revolving doors of family and guests. Probably why we get along so well, along with a few other reasons we have figured out. 🤣 Most times Yasiel’s mom is traveling with us or is living with him so it is a benefit getting to see her, and have the laughter I get from us not understanding one another, yet communicating well when needed, and the food that she cooks! I see why cubans eat rice and beans every day, or a form of beans.
Another reason I had a beyond delightful time filled with so many special memories and I was able to learn so many more Cuban things is because Yasiel’s agent, and my dear friend Lisette Carnet was also there. But as Yasiel called out when having to deal with the two of us, we are family, we just come from different mothers. It is hilarious when having to deal with the two of us together. I know one of us can be something, let alone two!
I need to give you a proper description of Lisette so you get to feel the spirit and soul of this human. Lisette is of Cuban ancestry and I’m not sure I know her true age. She is beyond stunningly beautiful. At all times. She would argue this until she is blue in the face, but I know why she is stunning without a stitch of makeup or with a full face of glam. Beyond her natural beauty and grace is the beauty of this woman who loves and lives fiercely! Lisette is one of only 12, female MLB agents in the United States. She saw injustices with players and how the current system is and knew she could make a change so she has!
She created her own sports agency that already has more moving parts that I would begin to know. I just know the amount of players that she has that she is cheering on, negotiating for, helping with something, and the list could go on, is impressive!! I was able to meet a couple other of her players that also come from Cuba that she is helping to navigate a transition not only into the American baseball system, but also an entirely different world for a good chunk of these men coming from a third world country and not speaking English. I had genuinely no clue the process, what happens, what doesn’t happen and she is trying to help fill in the gaps for many athletes that don’t have a voice because they simply don’t understand what the heck is going on and what they deserve as new tax paying additions to this country.
Lisette is how I met Dairon Blanco, our local Royals player that she signed that is additionally from Cuba. He is already signed for this upcoming year so that means I will get Lisette to that part of the woods at some point and my big mouth will be ready to cheer him on when I can be there at Kaufman Stadium. I did get to see him play winter ball in the Dominican Republic where he also killed it. He is really going to be fun to watch this year.
I got to get to know many of Yasiels other close friends which I see why he most certainly loves them. They are amazing and I loved I got to get to know them more and spend time with them also. Plus, since Yasiel had to head back to Venezuela for a parade and welcome ceremony, his friends took care of us with a Super Bowl party to celebrate those Chiefs!! Shannon and I both laughed as we had a request to bring dessert. As I was telling the hosts that I needed more information then that because basically white people serve way different desserts than latino cultures, Shannon is texting me saying…”happy to pick up but you are going to need to get more details on cultural appropriation for desserts.”
So proud of the Chiefs and what a fun win, but disgusting what happened during the celebration and can’t imagine those that were there. Being caught in something like that is one of my greatest fears and that fact that I know multiple people who have been involved/at mass shootings is nuts. Scary you can’t even enjoy a parade without worry anymore.
Everyone be safe and look out for one another and tell those you love you love them! Life is too short to wait.
Lots of love,
Jenny
