Whale watch from Hawaii
I love whale watching. I love whales! They are so beautiful and majestic, and massive yet peaceful. My girlfriend Stacey who lives in Washington state whom I was able to visit as a stop on the way here, has a family beach home on Puget Sound. This Kansas girl learned about the ocean at the age of probably 13 from my stays there each summer. I of course learned about tides and low and high tide in school, but until you experience it somewhere where the water physically disappears and you wake up and the water no longer exists where you can see it and the boats are laying on the ground, (not to mention the fact I believe I woke my friends mother in panic because the water was gone….yeah. She still laughs about it.) the ocean is a crazy! So I’ve spent lots of time in my lifetime on a beach, sticking my toe to clam squirt as I call it, walking the sand and most importantly watching for whales. Whether we took a ferry to Friday harbor or pulled over along the ocean or I sat along the water (when in ) I was always on the look for whales.
Well it is engrained in me to be watching for whales blows of water and yesterday, from our yard here in Maui as we are sitting yacking I catch a blow spout out of the corner of my eye. We were able to watch three whales for a distance play in the water, probably showing off for a whale watching boat in the distance. I didn’t care but it was the first time I have ever gotten to witness without being on a whale excursion boat.
We did do an amazing catamaran for whale watching that we truly felt the best part of it was the exhilaration of getting on and off from the beach in between crashing waves and the rough ocean. I have never boarded like that before and afterwards was even crazier and we just laughed and laughed. I caught a video that is shared in my instagram and Facebook.
If you haven’t ever had the chance to whale watch, do it. It is breath taking, exciting, majestic, mind blowing and so much more to see those massive creatures. This was the start of the season so the movement of the whales was minimal.
I wanted to get this post shared about the whale watching and me learning about high and low tides even though I had typed before.
Both here in Kentucky and in Kansas the winter storms have hit us so the cold and snow are not making the start of January very pleasant. Trying to stay warm and not fall and crack my ass. I am not the most graceful on dry land so this sometimes is asking for trouble.
Hope you are staying warm and being safe with the weather. Until next Friday!
