Dad would have loved

My dad was an avid Wellers drinker. I mean avid. When it came time for 5 o’clock, especially when he was retired, he was ready for a hi-ball and you better make him one! We often laugh that we remember when open containers became illegal in Kansas and how dumb it was in our household that you could no longer drink and drive. It was hard to imagine was the world was coming to. If he only knew…😜

So when buying this house in Covington, KY I hadn’t even thought about the bourbon trail, and the area being so rich in bourbon history, and things to do! Of course my librarian sister was on it and started getting her research on and learning where Buffalo Trace Distillery was and that it was the manufacturer of Wellers Bourbon, that was purchased easily until recently quite cheaply and by the case. Now is a completely different story and fascinating to the Torrence girls whom have always lived in a house full of Wellers.

The drive my sister and I had on the way to Buffalo Trace was beautiful! We had a ton of fog to make the drive more exciting and pretty to look at.

Patti and I managed to get a Blanton’s bottle for each of us and a few other treasures, including a few Wellers items that my dad would have thought was pretty cool. For people like myself that are out of the bourbon loop, I guess it genuinely is a hot commodity right now and getting your hands on certain bottles isn't easy. So when visiting places like Buffalo Trace you are limited on what you can purchase and only certain bottles are available certain days. And for the next 86 days, my sister and I can not buy another bottle of Blanton’s bourbon from the distillery. I have found quite a few of the local liquor stores that are not fancy in their nature that may carry some of the coveted bottles while hunting for a friend. Plus I guess they aren’t marked up quite like they are other areas.

My one bottle for my Blanton’s allottment.

Something else we finally did, that I haven’t done in all my time here is go to the famous Jeff Ruby’s Steakhouse. I have heard all about it and see things on TikTok all the time, but had never made the time or reservation. But when my sister the Kansas steak lover comes to visit, it is a perfect place to be able to take her to experience. We had a spectacular dinner and an even better dessert that Jeff Ruby’s is becoming known for with the younger generation.

Ours was a Ruby Vuitton and oh wow…my sister would say that it might have been one of the best desserts she had ever had.

Still exploring the area of Covington daily which is truly fun for me. Before purchasing this I am only familiar with Cincinnati and learning parts of Ohio. I would only cross the river the pick up coffee or run to Target. I just happened to land in a super fun area, great location to everything including airport, stadiums and downtown Cincy not to mention to all that Kentucky has to offer also. So finding the area is beyond what I expected for oh so many reasons is exciting.

I wanted to share a few videos of the house in the before stage before I forget so you can watch it start to come together. Hopefully I have a couple more dear friends scheduled to come visit so hopefully I’ll share more of what the area has to offer then. It’s fun to explore with people because it is all new and fresh to me too!

Hope your year is kicking off right and have some adventures planned for the upcoming year. You know I will!

xoxo
