Who knew?

The things I’ve learned while living in a different part of the world is not only mind blowing sometimes, it is a genuine joy to be able to discover such cool things to do, see and try! And I’m trying to get this done in time so I can participate in something genuinely new to me, but is a national holiday around here. Opening day for baseball!!

So, whether it be that I didn’t pay attention to baseball, or that Topeka is far enough away from KC that the hullabaloo doesn’t hit us, but my goodness…it is a national holiday in Cincinnati and people start talking about it weeks before making plans for the festivities all day long surrounding the first ball game at home for the Cincinnati reds. I believe many places of employment are closed simply because employees all call in so many just close to celebrate. Some local schools also close to allow for the kids to attend the opening day parade along side Washington Park.

The flat that we have downtown Cincy, in an area called OTR is two blocks from Washington Park and we often walk over with the girls to stroll, plus they have live concerts and music festivities that one can enjoy just by being there. Plus they have a delightful area called the Porch that serves chips, candy bars beers and wine. So fabulous to meet up with friends, tables and chairs are everywhere and encourage game play, etc. So my goal is to head to the park before parade starting at noon and depending on my partaking I might attend the opening game that starts at 4. I’ll share more on that next time once I’ve gotten to experience it!

Really special to me to get to see so many of my friend Yasiel’s jerseys walking around Cincinnati. I know this city has to be a weird feeling for him because he was traded mid game which I can’t imagine how it would feel as a player. I love how loved and missed he is here.

As you can see, I got to experience it! The entire kit and kaboodle. It was such amazing history, energy, team spirit, family traditions…the list could go on and on. The stories I would hear from people talking to their friends, “I’ve been coming to this every year since I was a baby” was heard more times that I can count! This city came out to support and cheer on their team!

Now I do want to add this on about Cincinnati. They are not fair weather fans. They people love ALL their teams die hard whether they be winning or loosing. Which is fabulous for all the teams and the community spirit. Without a doubt, the Bengals, The Reds and the newest addition of mls fc Cincy, which was the worst in other league when started and the stadium was sold out every game even though they didn’t win a game. It’s genuinely impressive how people love their sports here.

FC Cincy which you see me attended often is presently sitting at the number 1 for soccer/futbol so…they have come a long way and it is definitely fun to watch that team and the spirit that goes along with it. If you follow me on instagram especially I share game stuff often. (All my social media handles are my name Jenny Torrence so pick a platform and I’m easy to find!)

Going to sign off so I can start my next one to share about my ferry adventure and also the actual game which we went to!

Happy Friday,

Jenny
